Technical machine acceptancebased on the official guidelines of bvdm/FOGRA

A new or second-hand printing press remains a major and significant investment for many printing companies.

So this is precisely why it is important to ensure that the printing press meets the required quality specifications one hundred per cent and the products it generates match the quality that the market expects.

Independent and neutral IPM machine acceptance safeguards the system quality expected by the customer and promised by the machine manufacturer. It prevents avoidable problems. The new machine is checked thoroughly from the perspective of machine and printing technology parameters.

The benefits for you of
IPM machine acceptance

By carrying out a neutral machine acceptance process, the manufacturer and operator both accept the test parameters and definitions defined in the technical guidelines.

Generally speaking, a machine acceptance process does not take any longer than a single shift on site, covering both the machine technology and printing technology aspects.

Added to this are the downstream analyses of the measuring results and the drafting of extensive documentation by our team of experts. The comprehensive documentation of the individual test results ensures that deviations from the originally defined performance profile can be detected and quickly and reliably eliminated.

What are the test criteria?

The machine acceptance is divided into several steps, which go from the general condition more and more into detail and thus traceably and reliably uncover and document all possibly existing defects

1. General section

Acceptance begins with the visual assessment and inspection. Here too, any superficial damage that might occur through transport can be easily documented.

2. Mechanical section

Once the machine has been approved by the manufacturer, its fully functional mechanical operation is checked. Even tiny irregularities can later lead to increased wear and more frequent maintenance.

3. Printing technology section

The printing technology section of the IPM machine acceptance process is broken down into three print forms.

Printing technology forms

The IPM press acceptance test is divided into three print forms.

R

Print technical form

In the printing technology forms, ink waste, dot gain, slurring, ghosting and dot gain spread are evaluated using 25 print samples.

R

After an ink change

After an ink change, the striped print form is printed in all printing units in combined printing with cyan.

Stripe formation is often the most neglected criterion in a standard commissioning process. Problem factors such as winding, dampening unit, roller and gear marks often only appear in the printing process when special printing products are used.

R

Testing of the machine fitter

When the machine register is being checked, it is important to check the machine’s handovers from printing unit to printing unit and from the first printing unit to the last.

Added to this is the determination of the feed registration of the upstream system and the lateral feed system, drive side and operating side.

Since the demands on the imaging of the printing plates with highly sensitive measuring elements for machine acceptance are high and because even the tiniest errors can influence the entire print outcome, IPM provides standards-compliant printing plates for the machine acceptance process.

Any initial trend in machine results is picked up directly on site. A representative evaluation is then carried out in the laboratory and set down in extensive documentation – the acceptance assessment.

The acceptance process

IPM supports you in your technical machine acceptance in a manufacturer-neutral and transparent manner.

Vorgespräch Druckmaschinenabnahme
Phase 1

Preliminary consultation and advice on site – non-binding and free of charge

If you are interested in a machine acceptance, we would be happy to offer you a consultation to provide more information. We will tell you about our services, the exact process involved with machine acceptance and the costs of the quality assessment.

This advice to you is free of charge and non-binding. The only costs incurred will be travel costs.

Phase 2

Proposal and order confirmation

Once our proposal has been accepted and the order has been awarded, a detailed description of your services and tasks will be prepared using checklists and requirements profiles for the machine acceptance process.

The process parameters to be prepared, such as paper, ink or machine availability, will already be defined at this stage.

Phase 3

Machine acceptance on site

The machine acceptance process is broken down into several steps, which go from the general condition down into more and more detail, allowing any defects that are present to be discovered and documented with complete traceability and reliability.

  • Part 1: General section
  • Part 2: Mechanical section
  • Part 3: Printing technology section
Phase 4

Evaluation of the measuring and test results

The acceptance assessment is a detailed piece of documentation listing the target and actual values, as well as easy-to-follow explanations on the tests carried out, plus any defects or unusual findings discovered. This documentation also serves later as reference for the quality

of the machine for comparative measures and generally secures a higher resale value at the same time.

Phase 5

Defects on the machine
– troubleshooting

If a newly purchased printing press exhibits problems, the manufacturer is obliged to fix them. The print tests required are repeated once the fix has been applied to check the defective parameter and in order to complete and conclude the documentation process.

The costs in this case are generally borne by the manufacturer.
